Sermorelin (Sermorelin acetate, GHRH 1-29) is a synthetic peptide analog consisting of the first 29 amino acids of the naturally occurring 44-amino acid growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). These first 29 amino acids are the biologically active portion responsible for stimulating GH release from the pituitary gland.
Originally FDA-approved in 1997 as Geref for diagnostic evaluation and treatment of growth hormone deficiency in children, sermorelin has become one of the most commonly prescribed peptides in anti-aging medicine. Unlike exogenous HGH, sermorelin stimulates the body’s own GH production in a physiological pulsatile pattern.
Sermorelin is considered the safest entry point into GH peptide therapy due to its extensive clinical history, natural mechanism of action, and self-limiting nature — it cannot cause excessive GH levels because the pituitary’s own feedback mechanisms remain intact.
