Epitalon (also spelled Epithalon, Epithalone) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) that is the synthetic version of Epithalamin, a polypeptide extract from the pineal gland. It was developed by Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson, who spent decades studying peptide bioregulators and their effects on aging.
Epitalon’s primary mechanism is the activation of telomerase — the enzyme that adds telomeric repeats to the ends of chromosomes. Telomere shortening is one of the most fundamental mechanisms of cellular aging, and telomerase activation can theoretically reverse this process. In cell culture studies, Epitalon increased telomerase activity by up to 33x.
Beyond telomere biology, Epitalon regulates melatonin production from the pineal gland, improves circadian rhythm function, and has shown life-extending properties in multiple animal models. Professor Khavinson’s research program has produced over 200 publications spanning four decades on this peptide.
